520 _aThese are the lost years of John A. Lee's autobiography. It starts when he is at Burnham Industrial school, where he was sent for petty misdemeanors, running away repeatedly from the mind-deadening lack of intellectual stimulation. He began a life always on the move, in job after job but fear of being returned to Burnham made him move on every time a policeman appeared on the horizon. He was eventually captured and after trial he served his sentence in Mount Eden jail and came out with the determination that there would be no more crime - no matter how petty - for him.
