Since 2006 the RAF has provided major air support in southern Afghanistan to help with reconstruction and to support the authority of the Afghan government. Its personnel and aircraft have been very heavily involved in everything from tactical reconnaissance and close air-support to in-theatre airlift and air-refuelling.
