Jasuo Kuwahara was a 15 year old from a wealthy family at Onomichi near Hiroshima. He won a National Riding Championship and then was inducted into the Japanese Army Airforce at the Hiro Airbase. After undergoing a strenuous and often brutal training, he emerged as a top pilot while just over 16 years of age. He then undertook missions against the US Airforce aircrafts which were attacking the Japanese mainland, and also encountered the Japanese Kamikaze flyers on their attacks on American and Allied warships. On August 6th 1945 Jason, still only 17 years of age, was on leave from his base for two days. He went to Hiroshima on the way to see his family. He heard air-raid sirens and looking up, saw a lone B-29 bomber. A white speck dropped from the plane’s belly – a parachute carrying a strange dark object – and then the world erupted into a mighty convulsion. Jasuo lived through the detonation of the A bomb and described the horrible aftermath. He lived to tell his story to Gordon Allred . This is a story that lives with you! E Niven
