Law of the desert born: When Sheriff Gates formed his posse, he opened the jail and let Lopez ride along. Shad Marone, foreman of the Running F Ranch, had shot and killed his neighbor, Jud Bowman. Lopez, a former hand at the Running F, swears he's the only one who can track Marone down. But the posse forced Marone into an almost waterless desert, driving him on toward certain death or a showdown with the halfbreed who had once been at his mercy and now held Marone's life in his hands.

That triggernometry tenderfoot: From the moment he stepped off the stage in a pressed suit, anyone could see he was a rank greenhorn. He had come to Harrison, Montana, with a purpose. As Jim's suspicions build, they center on one person: Varrow, whose relationship with George's wife, Amie, is a little too close for comfort. In the end, it will all come down to just two men -- and only one will walk away.
